Jim and I knew each other from an early age. We both played trumpet in the band and also played in a trumpet trio together. Jim was a great trumpet player and went on to major in music and make it his life career. Our mothers were both nurses at the same hospital and were friends, so Jim and I spent a good bit of time together. We also attended the same church.

I remember going to I believe St. Petersburg, Florida on a band trip on the train and Jim had a dummy made with a band uniform that was made by his mom and he was a ventriloquist with the little mascot throught the whole trip and he was really good in talking without moving his lips. He did come to one of our class reunions the 20th and he told me that he was playing in a band close to Lima, Ohio and I did go to see him one time and he was fantastic. I met Jim when we were in the 7th grade together and we played in the Lafayette Band together.
