Another LHS General has fallen. We called him Buddy at Lafayette. Henry "Hank" Gullett took flying lessons at Coy flying school in Georgetown. He was in AirForce ROTC and I was Army. I understand he flew F-4 Phantoms in Vietnam. What a great sound the F-4"s make when they made a low pass for a "groundpounder" like me because you knew help was on the way. They still call them the sound of freedom. At night they would kick in the afterburners for more acceleration and go straight up to avoid enemy fire as they left Nha Trang Air Force base.
Major Henry “Hank” C. Gullett, retired USAF combat veteran made his last take off on May 29, 2024.
Known as “Buddy” to his family, Hank was born November 16, 1946, in Lexington, Kentucky, to Daisy and Henry Gullett (both deceased). He is survived by his son, Kevin of Wilmington, North Carolina; daughter, Shannan of Arlington, Virginia; grandchildren, Alexandra (AJ) and Dixon of Wilmington, North Carolina; sister, Patsy Berry; and brother, Matthew Gullett both of Lexington, Kentucky. Hank learned to fly at Marshall Field in Georgetown, Kentucky, working for Mr. Marshall Coy in 1966. He graduated Lafayette High School and went on to graduate from the University of Kentucky in 1968. He later obtained his master’s degree in business from the University of Utah.
Thanks to Charles Browning for the heads up on this one.

Buddy was a valued member of the tennis team. I wonder how many of us actually heard F-4s in Vietnam. One of those sound memories along with Hueys that never fade. RIP
