School Story

I fondly remember "sock hops" on the basketball floor, and that first kiss, and playing tennis for Lafayette, and shoveling snow off the courts in March, and getting to hit with Tommie Wade occasionally, who went on to become the first tennis All-American at Kentucky. I recall going to games and watching many great athletes like, Thad Jaracz, Jim Ishmael, Bruce Pieratt, Tommy Borg. I recall respect for teachers, even reverence, for their knowledge and mentoring. I recall discipline when it was needed, and kudos when they were earned: and typing class in the sweltering heat of Lafayette's non air conditioned third floor. Little did we know how that "secretarial" skill would pay off in the future world. And little did I realize how well our years at Lafayette would prepare us for what lay ahead. Thank you Lafayette.

At Jim's age he's just happy to be anywhere. You're 18 days older than I am, Jim.
Have a terrific celebration.

Happy Birthday. We shared at least one, if not more summers working at the YWCA Camp Otonka on the Kentucky River. Carolyn was the consummate camp counselor and role model for Lexington's finest young ladies. She was poised, confident, and empathetic to everyone she met. A real southern lady. We sang Cumbaya every night around the big campfire with the girls. I am sure she continued to have a positive influence on the world around her, and the people she met. Carpe Diem, and many more. Linda, thanks for keeping us connected. Sorry I could not make the 50th. Life is good, and old times were what it took to get us to today. Carpe Diem. I am. Best to all, including Ishmael, Pieratt, Straus, and Jaracz.

Jim, I can still beat you at tennis. Remember all those bus rides to Woodland Park to "try" to play the game? Congratulations on all your success. And 7 children! Where are the photos of you today? I married a wonderful woman from Charlestown, Indiana six years ago. Just across the river from you. Be well, old friend.

Jim, congratulations on all your success. I know that Judgeship meant a great deal to you. You earned it. Now, are you going to let me beat you at tennis? I remember our drive to Mobile in my old 1940 Chevy convertible. Good times.
