Karen and I rode to UK together.  We studied together and she was always organized and prepared,  I had planned to reunite with her at the 50th high school reunion in order to share thoughts of the life of a nursing instructor.  She did not attend the reunion due to health issues.  I miss her and the opportunity to have a last chat and laugh.  I care that she is gone!         Sandi Harshbarger Isburg

Karen and I grew up together on Fairfield Drive.  Her home was always open to the kids in the neighborhood.  I remember her mom making fudge for us.  Karen was such a sweet person.  She went into nursing and loved her career.  We were going to have lunch together before our 50th reunion.  She wasn't feeling well, but thought she could make it.  She didn't.  She wanted to come to everything and had really looked forward to it.  I didn't realize until later how ill she was.  She sent several texts saying she thought she could come, but she couldn't.  She ended up spending a week in the hospital.  I'll always miss Karen. My prayers are with her sister Lynn and brother Phil.

Karen had high hopes for her health and was so enthusiastic about the reunion.  She had a reuptation for excellence at UK Hospital, where she worked as a registered nurse over 25 years.  She was an expert critical care nurse whom nurses and others consulted for current clinical practices.  Karen was a very smart and dedicated professional.  The patients and nurses she encountered are healthier and wiser - respectively - because of her involvement.  What a great legacy... .
